New Music: Fifty Shades of Avant-garde
on the occasion of 25th anniversary of the Studio for New Music Ensemble

The Centre for Contemporary Music of Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and Contemporary music department are hosting an international academic conference:

The conference will be held at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory (Bolshaya Nikitskaya 13/6, Moscow, Russia), October, 19-20, 2018.

Vladimir Tarnopolsky – Composer, Artistic Director of the Studio for New Music Ensemble, Professor, Contemporary Music Department.

Marianna Vysotskaya – Dr. Habil., Full Professor, Head of Contemporary Music Department

Eugenia Izotova – PhD, Associate Professor, Contemporary Music Department

Olga Ardeleanu – Head of Centre for Contemporary Music

Sergej Tchirkov – Assistant Artistic Director of the Studio for New Music Ensemble

Proposals for papers are invited on any of the following topics:

• Early XXth century avant-garde music in Russia and abroad
• Post-war avant-garde music
• Music of XXIst century
• Extended instrumental performance techniques
• New technologies in contemporary music
• The role of New Music in modern society
• Current tendencies in musicology

Presentation formats:
Plenary talk – 30 minutes
Section talk – 15 minutes
Panel discussion – 10 minutes

The languages of the conference are Russian and English.
The conference is free to attend, there is no registration fee. Travel and accommodation costs are to be borne by participants. The organizing committee provides an invitation letter upon request. A limited number of rooms at the hotel is available and can be booked upon request (please indicate in the registration form whether the accommodation is needed).

Potential contributors are invited to submit registration form and abstracts (500-1000 characters) by September 10, 2018 via email:
The conference proceedings will be peer-reviewed and published. The max. paper length is 40000 characters, the papers exceeding this limit will not be accepted for publication. The organizing committee reserves the right to make corrections prior to publication.
Full papers are to be submitted no later than November 15, 2018.
