Alfred Schnittke in the context of his epoch

Commemorating ten years of the death
and the seventieth-five anniversary of the birth of the composer.
Series of the concerts of chamber and ensemble music, 2008-2009

Supported by Ministry of Austrian Cultural Centre

Alfred Schnittke became the last great Soviet composer, in whose tragic music the twilight of the Soviet period has obtained its bright musical embodiment. The uncertainty of ideals of that time found its expression in the polystylistical explorations of the composer. In our cycle Schnittke’s music is presented in juxtaposition with the music of his favorite great predecessors.
