Klang Stream (Sound Stream)

2012–2013, Rakhmaninov hall of the Moscow conservatory, Concert Hall of the Composer’s House

Klang Stream (Sound Stream) was a massive project of the Studio for New Music ensemble devoted to the music of Russia and Germany. The economic cooperation in trade, which had emerged during the previous decade, had to a certain degree downgraded the cooperation in the sphere of culture, at least in the sphere of serious classical music. The speeches of the politicians and businessmen of our countries always contain mention of growth of trade and development of export of energy, but the ideas of common cultural values and the profound mutual connections between our two cultures are not often enough even mentioned. For this reason, polemicizing with the title of the venturesome Russian-German project in the sphere of export of gas, titled “Nord Stream,” this musical project was named “Klang Stream.”In this project the music of the greatest masters of German music is presented alongside compositions by Russian composers of different generations and trends, while at the same time each concert is devoted to a special subject. Especially for this project a number of outstanding German composers – Nickolaus Huber, Marc Andre, Nickolaus Richter de Vroe, Enno Poppe, etc. – wrote compositions in some way or other connected with Russia, its culture, history and language. The Studio for New Music ensemble also presented works by Russian composers connected with Germany.
