Program:

The year 2023 is the centennial of György Ligeti, one of the most brilliant innovators of contemporary music. His intellectualism, sense of modernity, humor and perfect mastery of composition still amaze the imagination of both professionals and music lovers. The brilliant master of writing and sonic ingenuity, György Ligeti always tended to renew his musical language, which is brightly depicted on the composer’s four drawings that may be regarded as the four seasons of his oeuvre, showing the main features of his style.

The proposed conference will be dedicated to all aspects of György Ligeti’s inexhaustibly multifaceted personality, namely: his oeuvre, his musical and analytical activities, as well as his achievements in teaching.

The main topics of the conference are:
• The structural grounds and technique of György Ligeti’s compositions
• György Ligeti as a musicologist
• The musical theatre of György Ligeti
• The orchestra of György Ligeti
• intertextual trends in György Ligeti’s oeuvre
• György Ligeti as a teacher
• György Ligeti and music of the 1970s‒80s

The conference will be held at Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory (13 Bolshaya Nikitskaya Street). A mixed version of the conference is planned, combining face-to-face and online formats.

Time limit for presentations: 20 minutes, plus 10 minutes for discussion.

Participation in the conference is free, no fees are charged. The participants’ travel and accommodation expenses are not covered. Personal invitations to the conference will be forwarded upon request.
